Studies at the Liceo Artistico Barabino in Genoa



First collective exhibit in Genoa



Personal exhibit where first abstract work were presented. Travels around Italy: Venice, Florence, Rome, being enchanted by Giorgione, Tintoretto and Raffaello masterpieces.



Lengthy research into informal painting, in particular De Kooning and Fautrier.

In Nervi, for the Massine ballets, he creates costumes and fabrics based on Manessier sketches.

He forms a friendship with the collector Andrea Denini.

He starts a collaboration that would last almost thirty years with the art gallery manager Rinaldo Rotta and with his galleries in Genoa and Milan.



A long stay in Spain where he associates with artists and critics. He becomes friends with J.E.Cirlot with whom he corresponds for a long period of time. He is fascinated by the work of Tapies..


1961 / 1962

He receives the Duchessa di Galliera scholarship that allows him to stay in Ravenna for a long period of time where he studies the mosaic technique that would greatly influence his subsequent work. He stays in Paris for a long period of time where he meets Sonia Delaunay and frequents her studio and attends engraving courses at Stanley Hayter's Atlier 17.

He creates many engravings and organises exhibits for this technique. One of his works is acquired by the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Rome and one by the Museo Sperimentale d'Arte Moderna in Turin.

Together with his painter friends Carreri, Esposto, Guarneri and Stirone, he founds the Tempo 3 group in Genoa that intends, based upon studies of the phenomenology of language and the psychology of form, to determine a creative methodology and be therefore a third way in addition to the tendencies of programmed art and Gestalt psychology.

His paintings have geometric characteristics.



He Founds in Genoa with friends painters the group "Tempo3" which proposes, on the basis of the studies of the phenomenology of language and the psychology of the form, to determine a creative methodology and to be thus the third alternative to the tendencies of the  programmed art and gestaltism.  His paintings begin to take a more geometric connotations from then.



The Museum of Ciudad Bolivar (Venezuela) acquires one of his paintings.

1974 / 1980

Studies regarding the fundamental elements of paintings.

He becomes interested in the expressive possibilities of colour, experimenting on various materials and with various techniques (temperas, pastels, watercolours)


1980 / 1985

Travel period in Europe. First trip to Canada and the United States.

Severe self criticism of his previous work. He decides to restart from oil painting..


1986 / 1990

He spends long periods of time in Paris, Madrid, Monaco, Düsseldorf and Hamburg.

He presents his works at the most important contemporary art shows.


1986 / 1990

He forms a friendship with the musician and collector Gian Piero Reverberi.



A historical monograph edited by Professor Claudio Cerritelli is published in the Edizioni Essegi of Ravenna



The Pinacoteca Comunale di Arte Moderna in Ravenna organises an exhibition with his most recent paintings..



He starts collaborating with various European galleries: Protée (Paris and Tolosa), Horizon (Marseilles), Heseler (Munich), Ulla Sommers (Düsseldorf).

He opens a studio in his families' town of origin, in Castell'Arquato (Piacenza).



The Galerie Protée of Paris presents him at the Salon de Mars and organises a one-man show for him in May..



Numerous ceramic works that will be shown together with his paintings at the Galerie Protée in Tolosa.

Large retrospective exhibition promoted by the Commune of Castell'Arquato at Palazzo Pretorio.



In Portugal, he discovers new expressiveness in the colour blue at an exhibit in Lisbon. In a series of works he expresses all of the possibilities of this colour. The Galerie Protée exhibits the results in Paris in a show entitled “Obidos”.



Fondazione Reverberi opening in Genoa



Bargoni experiments his work on glass.

Some of the pieces he creates at the Studio Casarini in Savona will be exhibited in Paris, in Parma.



He makes a large marble sculpture for the garden of the new Centro Verani in Fiorenzuola d'Arda (Piacenza).



Bargoni, Casagrande and Ruggeri show three large paintings each at the exhibit “Discanto” presented by Bruno Bandini at the Oratory of Santa Maria delle Grazie at Vigoleno (PC).

The commune of Casalmaggiore and the Amici Palazzo Te Association of Mantova organise a large one-man exhibition at the Oratory of Santa Chiara in Casalmaggiore.

Returns to work at his friend Giovanni Poggi's San Giorgio Ceramics in Albisola.

A monograph edited by Claudio Cerritelli is published by REXbuilt-in.

He shows his work at the exhibit “Ceramica Contemporanea” organised by the Amici Palazzo Te Association in Casalmaggiore and at the Studio Centenari in Piacenza.



The Galerie Protée exhibits six large sized paintings at the Art Paris show at the Carrousel du Louvre.

Jean Rogé presents the book “Ailleurs, incertaine” with poetry by Béatrice Comte and watercolours by Bargoni at the Studio Centenari in Piacenza.

Gerard Gamand, director of Azart (international contemporary art magazine), exhibits four large sized paintings at the Hotel Meurice in Paris for the partners’ presentation.

His recent and frequent travels to Essaouira (Morocco) and to Tozeur (Tunisia), where he has a new studio, give rise to a new season of works on paper and watercolours.



The Estrine Museum-Van Gogh Foundation of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence organises a great one-man show. A monograph has edited with the introductions of Laurence Izern, art historian, and Philippe Latourelle, museum’s director.



In Mai 2011 he presents at Dondolando Arte Gallery of Martignana Po (Cremona), beside his usual oil paintings, one series of watercolors papers dedicated to Tozeur, all present in a book-catalog. He opens a new atelier, expressly for paintings of large formats, à Castell’Arquato.


2012 / 13

n 2013 he presents a solo show of large formats curated by the Conseil Général d'Eure-et-Loir in the exhibition spaces of the Departmental Archives of Chartres.


2014 / 15

In April 2015 solo exhibit at Fonds Labégorre in Seignosse (Landes) and one at Galerie Protée in Paris during the Fall.



In April 2016, in April, an exhibition of large canvases, accompanied by a critical essay by Vittorio Sgarbi, celebrates the opening to the public of the historical and beautiful Villa Uxbridge in San Giovanni in Croce (CR).



In February of 2017 in Piacenza the Museo Alberoni organized the exhibition-event “RELIGO, Giancarlo Bargoni a confronto con i capolavori della Galleria Alberoni”. Fourteen large Color Crosses are displayed in the Galleria degli Arazzi, another series of paintings is exhibited in the museum rooms beside the permanent antique collection while dedicated rooms host forty recent paintings.



In September 2018 The Stadische Galerie de Rosenheim organized an exhibition of large canvas in the event Rosenheim-Mantova.

In October, by the Studio Architettura Martelli, exposition of watercolors papers with a story of Stefano Sgambati in the catalogue, titled “The cards on the table”.
